OpenAI's Frontier aims to manage enterprise AI agents
A report from Zdnet says OpenAI unveiled Frontier, a platform to build, deploy, and manage AI agents for enterprises, marking a shift from consumer LLMs toward deeper enterprise sales. The article says Frontier leans on "forward-deployed engineers" to customize deployments and feed learnings back into development, and it connects data through a "semantic layer" similar to Palantir-style ontologies.
Zdnet adds that Frontier assigns identities, explicit permissions, and guardrails to AI coworkers; it is in use by a limited set of customers including HP, Inc., Intuit, Oracle, Thermo Fisher, and Uber, and will be available more broadly over the next few months.
Zdnet notes Frontier could both require partnerships with and threaten established enterprise vendors such as Palantir and Palo Alto Networks.
