OpenAI introduces Health mode in ChatGPT to link personal health data
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a dedicated health-and-wellness mode in ChatGPT that lets users combine medical records and wearable data to "ground conversations in your own health information," according to OpenAI. OpenAI said roughly 40 million people a day rely on ChatGPT for medical questions.
The company said Health can help users prepare for appointments, plan questions for doctors, and receive customised diet plans or workout routines, but it is "not intended to replace medical care" and is not designed for diagnosis or treatment. OpenAI said users can connect a range of sources, including Medical Records (lab results, visit summaries, clinical history), Apple Health (movement, sleep, activity patterns), Function (lab test insights, nutrition ideas), MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers, AllTrails, Instacart and Peloton.
The company also described extra protections for Health, saying "conversations and files across ChatGPT are encrypted by default at rest and in transit" and that Health adds "purpose-built encryption and isolation"; OpenAI said Health conversations will not be used for its foundation model training and that Health is kept in its own memory and space, though some information from regular sessions may surface when applicable.
