OpenAI launches $8 ChatGPT Go tier in US
OpenAI has released ChatGPT Go in the United States, a lighter subscription tier priced at $8 a month after a four-month test in India.
ChatGPT Go builds on the free ChatGPT experience by adding unlimited chats with GPT-5.2 Instant, the ability to create more images and upload more files, longer memory with a larger context window, access to extra features and extended advanced data analysis. ZDNET says extra features for Go users include projects, tasks and custom GPTs.
OpenAI said usage limits for core chat and tools are higher on Go than on the free tier, but it did not specify by how much; limits may vary based on system conditions and are subject to abuse safeguards. The company now offers three paid monthly tiers: Go at $8 (GPT-5.2 Instant), Plus at $20 (GPT-5.2 Thinking, legacy, Codex) and Pro at $200 (GPT-5.2 Pro).
ZDNET described Go as giving users longer sessions and more image generation capacity but noted it does not include access to Sora, while ChatGPT Plus provides Sora and legacy models and Pro is aimed at what OpenAI calls "AI power users pushing the limits of advanced intelligence." To try Go, users can log into their OpenAI account, click their profile, choose Upgrade Plan and select Try Go. ZDNET also disclosed that its parent company, Ziff Davis, filed an April 2025 lawsuit against OpenAI alleging copyright infringement in the training and operation of its AI systems.
