OpenClaw bans Bitcoin and crypto mentions on Discord after fake token scare
The developer behind the open-source AI agent framework OpenClaw confirmed that mentioning Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies on its Discord can lead to removal. A user said they were blocked after referencing Bitcoin block height as a timing mechanism in a multi-agent benchmark.
Creator Peter Steinberger said members agree to "strict server rules" and the community enforces a "no crypto mention whatsoever" policy. He later offered to restore the user's access if they emailed their username. The policy followed a messy rebrand. Scammers seized old social handles and promoted a Solana-based token called $CLAWD, which rose to roughly $16 million in market capitalization within hours before collapsing more than 90% after Steinberger denied involvement.
Early buyers accused the developer, and he warned he "would never launch a cryptocurrency" and that any token claiming association was fraudulent.
