OpenTTD asks players to stop blaming Atari over Steam delist
OpenTTD was removed from Steam and GOG after Atari re-released the original 1995 Transport Tycoon Deluxe as a commercial product. The new Transport Tycoon Deluxe has a "mostly negative" user rating on Steam, with 26 user reviews and a peak concurrent player count of 23, and the change has provoked a strong reaction from parts of the OpenTTD community.
The OpenTTD team says it reached a compromise with Atari: access to OpenTTD on Steam and GOG is limited to people who purchase Transport Tycoon Deluxe, while the open source version remains available for free on the OpenTTD website. Owen Rudge noted that the project owes much to Transport Tycoon Deluxe and Chris Sawyer, and that OpenTTD grew from a near-clone of TTD into a project rooted in those original fundamentals.
