Netflix was not a household name fifteen years ago and relied on licensed content before it began making its own scripted shows. In 2013 the streamer launched two series that would define its tone for the next decade, and one of them, Orange Is the New Black, a female-led prison drama, became a sensation when its first season dropped in July 2013.

That season held a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, and the full series features a 90% score. Twelve years after it premiered, Orange Is the New Black is receiving renewed attention, per FlixPatrol. Streaming data shows the series has found a significant audience in the U.S., but the attention is not on Netflix: on Apple's PVOD platform the show is ranked fifth and continues to climb, competing with Spartacus, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Survivor and Love Story.

Netflix has grown into the world’s largest streaming service and continues to deliver hits across genres.
