Oscars 2026: Who will and who should win

For the first time in years, it's a toss-up on who will take home the Oscar in the main categories at this year's Academy Awards. The Oscars air on ABC and stream on Hulu Sunday at 7pm ET. "One Battle After Another" and "Sinners" are the frontrunners in the major categories.

In best actor, Timothée Chalamet is the frontrunner for "Marty Supreme," but Michael B. Jordan's surprise win at The Actor Awards has given him momentum for "Sinners." The race could go either way. Paul Thomas Anderson looks poised in best director for "One Battle After Another," while Ryan Coogler could pull off a win with his crowd-pleasing "Sinners." If Coogler wins director, it could shift the night; otherwise "One Battle After Another" is the pick for best picture.

Other likely winners include Jessie Buckley for best actress and Sean Penn for supporting actor, though Delroy Lindo is a worthy contender.
