Outer Range: One of Prime Video's Most Underrated Sci‑Fi Series
Outer Range follows rancher Royal Abbott, played by Josh Brolin, as he copes with his daughter-in-law's disappearance and the sudden appearance of a mysterious black void in one of his pastures. The cast includes Tom Pelphrey and Lewis Pullman as Royal's sons, with Imogen Poots, Isabel Arraiza, and Tamara Podemski in supporting roles.
The series was created by Brian Watkins, who served as executive producer and showrunner. What begins as a Prime Video take on a modern western quickly turns into a strange, hard sci‑fi mystery. The show rarely hands the audience clear explanations, piling on twists that keep the central enigma — and the characters' motivations — at the forefront.
Its mix of grounded performances and ambiguous worldbuilding makes the premise feel credible even when it grows increasingly uncanny. Outer Range ran for two seasons and 15 episodes before Prime Video canceled it.
