Outside groups back Luke Bronin in primary challenge to Rep. John Larson
Three outside political groups have lined up behind Luke Bronin in his primary challenge to Representative John Larson, the 77-year-old Connecticut Democrat seeking a 15th term, the Times reported on Jan. 29, 2026. VoteVets, The Bench and New Politics announced support for Bronin, 46, a former Navy intelligence officer and former Hartford mayor.
VoteVets’ backing is notable because the group has not backed a primary challenger to an incumbent since it supported Seth Moulton in 2014, the story said. Bronin has argued the Democratic Party needs generational change and raised about $1.2 million in the first two months of his campaign, out-raising Mr.
Larson in that period. Officials for the outside groups said they hoped to widen the money gap and amplify an age-based argument; VoteVets’ Max Rose said national-security backgrounds are “a pillar of the future of the party” and hinted the group’s spending would be significant, adding, “When we get involved, we don’t do so in subtle ways.
We get in things to win.” Mr. Larson, who has served in Congress for 27 years and has said he is running to see a Social Security bill he has championed reach the floor, still retains support from more than a dozen labor unions, the entire Connecticut congressional delegation and influential local officials.
