Overwatch Actor Backs Fans Calling For Anran Redesign
Fareeha Andersen, the voice actor behind Anran, has thrown her support behind a fan movement urging Blizzard to redesign the new fire‑wielding hero. Fans have posted dozens of comparison images showing Anran as she appears in the game versus how she looked in the animated trailer for Wuyang, her younger brother; the original design had sharper features and a longer nose, while the in‑game Anran has a smaller nose, a rounded face and a resemblance to Kiriko and Juno, prompting complaints of Overwatch’s so‑called “same face syndrome.” Andersen said she “got to mourn Anran between the design I had hoped for her and the design we ended up with,” and pointed to a precedent in the comic and the cinematic Elemental Kin that she felt promised a challenge to prevailing beauty standards.
She used the phrase “ozempic‑chic” and said the result “leaves a bad taste in our mouths,” adding that Overwatch’s history of challenging molds made the outcome feel like a missed opportunity.
