Overwatch's April Fools returns with two-week Underwatch mode
Overwatch's April Fools event this year introduces Underwatch, a two-week mode that the team promises will "throw 'common sense' off the nearest ledge." Developers say physics will break, balance will take a vacation, and matches will be filled with absurd, googly-eyed shenanigans.
The event runs from April Fools Day (April 1) through April 13. Players can earn rewards that are yet to be revealed, and are encouraged to "get silly in Underwatch and enjoy the mess, because nothing will behave the way you expect." Previous April Fools patches have leaned into chaos: 2023's WIP Very Serious Patch Notes - Draft added changes like keeping 50% ult charge when swapping heroes and Orisa's Javelin granting flight.
2024's Balanced Overwatch shrunk heroes, added an 'on-fire' damage boost, and increased projectile damage. Last year's Totally Normalwatch included a shrunken D.Va, Hanzo riding Orisa, and Reinhardt turned into a drifting racecar. The joke patches also double as a testing ground for potential changes.
