Pack It Up Everyone, Trump Ruined The Pokopia Meme
The Trump administration is full of people with zero creative bones in their bodies who predictably latch onto pop culture moments to spread their fascist ideals in the most low-effort way possible. In some cases this has meant using things like Stardew Valley, Halo, and Call of Duty in truly vile ways.
This time, Trump’s social media manager ruined the Pokémon Pokopia text meme. Pixelframe created a font generator that makes any phrase you type into appear like Pokopia’s colorful logo, complete with a screenshot of the game in the background so it looks like it’s part of a legitimate overlay.
Some people used this to make fun jokes, while others used it to spread awareness of causes they believe in because jumping on a trend can be a good way to get some social traffic for things you care about. Then, somebody at the White House used it as uncreatively as possible, making it say “Make America Great Again,” and posted it to their social channels.
