Cloverfield, directed by Matt Reeves, will leave Paramount+’s paid subscription catalog on April 1. 10 Cloverfield Lane will also depart the service on the same date. Released in 2008, the film used a cast of lesser-known actors, a distinctive framing device, and a hugely successful viral marketing campaign.

Its teaser was attached to Transformers, and the title was later revealed ahead of Beowulf. It grossed more than $170 million worldwide against a reported budget of $30 million and pushed toward a then-record $40 million opening weekend domestically. Critics have given it a Certified Fresh 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus calling it “A sort of Blair Witch Project crossed with Godzilla, Cloverfield is economically paced, stylistically clever, and filled with scares.” The movie spawned 10 Cloverfield Lane, which grossed more than $110 million against a reported $15 million budget, and The Cloverfield Paradox, released directly on Netflix in 2018 after a troubled production.
