Season 14 of Chicago Fire put Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) under intense scrutiny after he refused a federal agent's order during the One Chicago crossover to secure evidence at a house fire. His decision led to an arrest; the federal charges were later dropped, but his standing as a CFD chief remained in jeopardy.

As Pascal prepared for a disciplinary hearing, Firehouse 51 braced for the outcome. Lt. Mouch McHolland returned to the house with help from City Hall ally Annette Davis, and Pascal delivered the gutting news that this would be his last shift, denying himself a longer transition.

Pascal weighed retirement but learned a former colleague in Phoenix had offered to connect him with a firehouse in Arizona. Showrunner Andrea Newman said the arrest sends Pascal on a journey where he must choose whether to fight to return to 51 or pursue a new direction.
