Paul Bettany Dismisses Voldemort Casting Rumors

Paul Bettany addressed speculation that he might play Lord Voldemort in HBO Max's Harry Potter reboot while speaking with Screen Rant at the 2026 Saturn Awards in Los Angeles. He said he had not heard about those specific rumours, that no one had called him about the role, and that he is a big fan of the IP and of HBO.

Earlier in March, insider Daniel Richtman named Bettany as a top candidate on Warner Bros.' list to play Tom Riddle, the antagonist first portrayed on film by Ralph Fiennes. Voldemort has a minor presence in the early books before becoming central at the end of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and throughout the rest of the series.

Bettany is best known for his long run in the MCU, beginning as JARVIS in Iron Man and later becoming Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, with eight live-action MCU appearances to date and a return slated this year in the VisionQuest series on Disney+.
