Pauline Hanson used taxpayer-funded solar rebate despite opposing renewables subsidies
Pauline Hanson accessed a taxpayer-funded rebate to install solar power on her Queensland home, despite calling for an end to public subsidies for renewable energy projects. Information released by the Clean Energy Regulator shows Hanson was among three conservative federal MPs to use the small-scale renewable energy scheme, alongside Nationals senator Matt Canavan and MP Kevin Hogan.
The regulator’s records show a small-scale certificate application was lodged in Hanson’s name for a residential property in Queensland in April last year and was approved. Canavan had an application approved in 2020 and Hogan in 2019; the moderate senator Andrew Bragg has also benefited, while another 13 conservative critics examined in the FoI did not access the program.
The scheme operates by issuing small-scale technology certificates (STCs) that reduce the upfront cost of eligible systems.
