Analyst: PC games revenue to outgrow consoles by 2028
Newzoo's 2026 PC and Console report finds that PC games revenue, which trailed console software sales for more than a decade, began to outpace consoles in growth during 2025 as the industry emerged from its "post-2020 plateau."
The firm forecasts 6.6% annual growth for PC revenue between 2025 and 2028, compared with an expected 4.4% for consoles, and projects that continuing PC growth will outstrip console sales by 2028.
Newzoo's data, drawn from sales metrics and user statistics across PC and console storefronts, points to a growing player base as a key driver—particularly in China, where the number of PC gamers rose 11.7% in 2025.
It also cautions that the manufacturing demands tied to AI investment could trigger widespread shortages and soaring prices for memory and storage, a disruption that might leave the gaming industry’s landscape unrecognizable by 2028.
