On the trail of Peaky Blinders, Black Sabbath and the perfect pint
The runaway success of the TV drama Peaky Blinders has put Birmingham back on the map for visitors, and the release of the movie The Immortal Man — much of it filmed in and around the city — looks set to generate fresh interest. The nearby Black Country Living Museum supplies authentic streets and workshops seen on screen, while Digbeth Loc.
Studios features murals by Mr Murals and a themed walking tour with a guide dressed as “Edward Shelby”. Historic mugshots, artefacts and original cells are now on display at the West Midlands Police Museum. Birmingham has become a destination for heavy metal pilgrims, too, after Black Sabbath’s final concert at Villa Park and Ozzy Osbourne’s recent passing.
Murals and landmarks linked to the band appear across the city — on Navigation Street, outside Scruffy Murphy’s and beside the coach station in Digbeth — and Black Sabbath Bridge on Broad Street marked a focal point during the funeral procession.
