Peaky Blinders returns after four years with The Immortal Man, arriving on Netflix. The film brings back Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby during World War II, living in a rural home and writing a novel while haunted by the memory of his sister Ruby. Six years after the series finale, Tommy confronts his brother Duke (Barry Keoghan), who has taken over the Peaky Blinders and become involved with Nazi-related activity.

The show remains fictional but is loosely based on a real Birmingham youth gang active from the 1880s to the 1920s; the original BBC series tracked the gang from just after World War I into the early 1930s. Writer Steven Knight and Murphy have pointed out that setting the film during World War II gives it a resonance with today.

Knight called it "becoming a bit topical," noting that the clear line between good and evil from that era has blurred for many.
