2024 offered a strong year for animation, but one film is about to leave Netflix next month: The Wild Robot. Based on Peter Brown's bestselling novel, the film follows Roz, a service robot stranded on a remote island who learns to survive and to connect. Lupita Nyong'o voices Roz, and Pedro Pascal is featured opposite her.

Roz’s journey from programmed machine to reluctant mother figure forms the emotional center, particularly in her bond with Brightbill, voiced by Kit Connor. The ensemble also includes the late Catherine O'Hara as Pinktail, Bill Nighy as Longneck, Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, Mark Hamill as Thorn, Matt Berry as Paddler, and Ving Rhames as Thunderbolt.

Collider's review described The Wild Robot as a breathtaking, emotionally overwhelming triumph, praising Nyong'o's warmth and vulnerability and noting Pascal's balance of sharp humor and emotional depth. The piece highlighted Connor's charm and the film's themes about identity and found family.
