Erling Haaland was absent from Manchester City's squad at Elland Road after sustaining a minor knee problem in training, and Antoine Semenyo's solitary strike secured a narrow win at Leeds. Guardiola said: "Two days ago, in the last moments of training, [Haaland] had some problems, a little injury.

It's not a big issue, but he's not ready for today." After the match Guardiola sounded more cautious, admitting: "I wish he'd come back!" and, when asked about a recovery timeline, simply: "I don't know." The injury comes as City prepare for games against Nottingham Forest, an FA Cup trip to Newcastle and a Champions League last-16 tie with Real Madrid, and would threaten their quadruple hopes as they try to reel in Arsenal.

He also criticised the scheduling of the FA Cup tie, unhappy with an 8pm kick-off that leaves less recovery time before the Real Madrid game. "We have three days until Nottingham Forest," he said.
