Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola criticised the US president Donald Trump’s administration after the deaths of Renee Good and nurse Alex Pretti during ICE operations, calling for accountability and defending human rights.

Guardiola said: "Look what happened in the United States of America, Renee Good and [intensive care nurse] Alex Pretti have been killed. Imagine the NHS, five, six people around him, go on the grass and 10 shots. Tell me how you can defend that?"

He broadened his comments to global conflicts, describing the situation in Gaza as "genocide" and arguing that the prevalence of live footage makes it impossible for the world to ignore such suffering.

Asked why he had spoken out now, Guardiola said it was the first time in 10 years a journalist had raised the topic and urged a humanitarian approach to migrants crossing the Channel, stating "rescue him. It is about a human being" and that "protecting the human being and human life is the only thing we have."
