Berlin-based Periwinkle lets people set up social media accounts on their own domain using the AT Protocol, the open source technology behind Bluesky. The startup provides the infrastructure to run a personal or organization-specific site, so you can have an account on your own domain or a hosted social space for a community.

Periwinkle sells domains and stores a user’s posts, follows and profile on a personal data server (PDS) within the AT Protocol ecosystem. The company updates, backs up and monitors those servers for customers, aiming to remove the technical burden of installing and maintaining a server yourself.

“We’ll be the first-to-market fully managed PDS service; there is nobody else that is doing this right now,” founder Charles Blumenthal says, though other groups like Blacksky offer PDS alternatives focused on self-governable communities. Plans start with a free tier offering 500MB of storage.
