Phil Campbell, longtime Motörhead guitarist, dead at 64
Phil Campbell, former Motörhead guitarist, has died at 64. His family confirmed via Instagram on Saturday that he "passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation." They described him as a devoted husband, a wonderful father and a proud, loving grandfather known affectionately as "Bampi," and asked for privacy during this time.
Campbell rose to prominence after joining Motörhead in 1984 alongside Michael "Würzel" Burston. He became the band's sole guitarist when Burston left in 1995 and recorded 16 studio albums with Motörhead. The group, which was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, disbanded in 2015 following the death of frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister.
After Motörhead, Campbell formed Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons in 2016; their debut album, "Old Lions Still Roar," was released in 2019.
