Pixar is developing a third Monsters, Inc. feature as the original film’s 25th anniversary approaches. The Wall Street Journal revealed the project, citing people familiar with the matter. This will be the franchise’s first theatrical entry in at least 13 years; the last feature was the college-set prequel Monsters University.

The world of Monsters has also continued on screen with the 2021 Disney+ series Monsters at Work. Few details are available, and it’s not yet clear whether the new movie will be a direct sequel to the original or take a different direction as Monsters University did.

A central question for fans is whether Billy Crystal and John Goodman will return as Mike and Sulley, roles they reprised for both Monsters University and Monsters at Work. Disney is also developing a Monstropolis-themed land and roller coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, which will likely feature voices from the original films.
