On March 5, after an extended development cycle and delay, Bungie’s sci‑fi extraction shooter Marathon launched on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The release has been fairly stable despite some questionable microtransactions and reports of PC performance issues.

When some players booted the game, they found loot they had shared with teammates during the beta waiting in their in‑game inboxes. In Marathon, if you drop a piece of gear for a teammate and everyone extracts successfully, you get that item back—designed to make permanent trading difficult and to encourage sharing during runs.

Players documented on Reddit and Twitter that guns, backpacks and other beta items reappeared at launch, with some accounts reporting powerful, rare weapons and very useful backpacks ready to grab. The outcome appears unintended, since Bungie had said beta gear and progress would not carry over to the main game.
