PlayStation doubles down on games for younger players
PlayStation’s recent State of Play offered a clear signal about the platform’s direction: beyond a slate of surprises, the company appears to be actively courting younger audiences. The showcase mixed high-profile projects — including a remake of the original God of War trilogy — with several entries that skew toward kids and teens, suggesting a larger strategic shift.
That shift builds on earlier moves such as Astro Bot and Lego Horizon Adventures, and was underscored by new reveals like Kena: Scars of Kosmora, which opened the stream, and Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cheery co‑op take on the Horizon universe. Even God of War has been retooled for a younger audience in the form of God of War Sons of Sparta, which dials back brutality and frames the story as a coming‑of‑age adventure.
The change echoes PlayStation’s origins in the 1990s, when cartoon mascots like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro coexisted with more mature fare such as Syphon Filter.
