PlayStation Portal update adds 1080p High Quality mode and faster setup
Sony is rolling out a software update for the PlayStation Portal that adds a 1080p High Quality Mode, improves cloud streaming and simplifies first-time setup. The update will roll out globally to all Portal users on March 18. High Quality Mode uses more data to deliver smoother performance and improved visual fidelity; Portal could already run games at 1080p, but the new mode aims to reduce the occasional lag and connection drops some users experienced.
This change will help players who have robust home networks. The update also streamlines Cloud Streaming search and product-detail pages, and adds clear on-screen notifications for trophies and game invites. New owners get a quicker sign-in option via QR code instead of entering credentials manually; setup previously could take around 15 to 20 minutes.
The PS Portal sold an estimated 2 million units by the end of 2024.
