Pluribus Emerges as Apple TV's Breakout Sci-Fi Series
Apple TV has become the home for several notable science-fiction series, from Severance in 2022 to long-running shows like Foundation and Invasion. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is due to return soon, though its future beyond Season 2 has yet to be decided. Pluribus premiered last year and went off the air a few weeks ago.
The Vince Gilligan–created series stars Rhea Seehorn as Carol, one of the few people immune to a wave of enforced happiness who sets out to discover its source and stop it. The show remains in Apple TV’s top 10 in several countries weeks after airing. Critics gave Pluribus a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience-driven Popcornmeter sits at 67%.
Apple TV has not announced a Season 2 release date. Gilligan said the series will not return on an annual schedule and compared its timeline to The Pitt; he is likely writing season two now, and if production begins before the end of the year a 2027 release is most likely.
