Pluribus Faces Streaming Slump Ahead of Season 2
Pluribus, Apple TV+'s sci-fi thriller from Vince Gilligan, has seen its popularity wane since debuting last year. It shot to the top of the platform's chart on release but has gradually slipped; it currently sits tenth on Apple TV+'s streaming chart. The streamer’s relatively small catalogue makes shifts in viewer attention easy to spot.
Other Apple titles are holding stronger positions — Severance stands at sixth, despite its latest season premiering months before Pluribus — and upcoming releases such as a new season of Your Friends & Neighbors could push Pluribus further down the list. Critics praised the series: Rhea Seehorn’s performance as Carol and the writing drew comparisons to Gilligan's previous work, and Pluribus holds a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating of 98%.
The show has been renewed for a second season, but it will likely need to outperform its debut to cement itself as a modern sci-fi classic. Behind the scenes, Gilligan says he is finding Season 2 harder to write than expected.
