Pokémon Company responds to White House use of Pokopia branding
The Pokémon Company pushed back after the White House posted an image on X designed to mimic the new game Pokopia and paired the artwork with the slogan "Make America Great Again." Pikachu, Magikarp and Slowpoke appear in the background of the meme. Sravanthi Dev, a company spokesperson, said in a statement to the New York Times: "We are aware of recent social content that includes imagery associated with our brand.
We were not involved in its creation or distribution, and no permission was granted for the use of our intellectual property. Our mission is to bring the world together, and that mission is not affiliated with any political viewpoint or agenda." This echoed an earlier incident in September 2025, when the Department of Homeland Security shared a video that used the Pokémon slogan "Gotta catch 'em all" over footage of ICE and Border Patrol agents making arrests.
One Homeland Security comment riffed on the animated series' opening: "To arrest them is our real test.
