Pokémon distances itself from White House over Pokopia image
On the launch day of Pokémon Pokopia, the White House posted an image created with a popular Pokopia font generator that spelled out "Make America Great Again" and included several Pokémon.
In a statement, The Pokémon Company distanced itself from the post. "We are aware of recent social content that includes imagery associated with our brand," spokeswoman Sravanthi Dev said. "We were not involved in its creation or distribution, and no permission was granted for the use of our intellectual property. Our mission is to bring the world together, and that mission is not affiliated with any political viewpoint or agenda."
The administration has used video game imagery and memes before; this is the second time it has used Pokémon, following a viral video that set the original anime's theme song to footage of ICE agents arresting people. Halo, Stardew Valley, and Call of Duty have also been part of similar posts, and pop artist Sabrina Carpenter publicly expressed her disdain.
