Takara Tomy and Pokémon released the Poke-nade Monster Ball in Japan in October 2025. Unlike most Tamagotchi-style toys that show a pixelated creature on a tiny screen, this device lets you simulate petting Pikachu by rubbing the top of its Poke Ball exterior. It remains available only in Japan, though second-hand listings on sites like eBay have pushed prices well above its ¥7,480 MSRP (about $48.30), with some listings at $99.99.

The color touchscreen can display up to 157 Pokémon, and rubbing the ball vertically or horizontally will elicit different reactions from Pikachu, Eevee, Sylveon, Lucario and others depending on how friendly you are; expressions also change based on how long you pet them.

The unit includes a full English language mode and offers Pokémon battles and mini-games where you clean and care for your digital pals. Its name combines "Pokémon" and the Japanese word naderu, meaning "petting," a direct reference to the toy's defining feature.
