Nintendo’s first Pokémon life-simulation, Pokémon Pokopia, arrives on March 5 for Switch 2, and early reviews place it alongside cozy hits like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Stardew Valley. Critics note the game centers on repairing a damaged world so Pokémon and their human friends might return.

The story opens with a lone Ditto waking to dead grass and ruined buildings; after taking the form of its missing trainer, it meets a Tangrowth that tasks the player with restoring habitats so critters—and hopefully humans—will come back. That setup wraps a darker premise in bright colors and Pokémon charm.

All the usual life-sim features are present: building homes, cleaning and decorating, crafting, cooking, and trading. Instead of traditional Pokéball encounters, players attract Pokémon by creating habitats that match each creature’s preferences. Some reviewers warn the game can feel slow, calling its learning curve and dialogue-heavy tutorials lengthy even many hours in.
