As someone borderline dependent on Animal Crossing for my nighttime wind down, I can't turn my back on my island fam — my sweet Chester, my kibble-loving Nibbles. Still, I haven't been this jealous of an adjacent cozy community in a minute; Pokopia players have shared some of the most wonderfully unhinged dialogue I've seen since the early '00s, back when the original Animal Crossing's villagers would send letters like, "I fear oblivion." Poking around on social media, Nintendo's Pokemon writers appear to have run wild in a way that's refreshing after years of milquetoast dialogue.

Players posted lines such as "the way i instantly took a screenshot of the dialogue that post is referencing 😭😭😭 icon behavior from bulbasaur," asked "why did they make kyogre a country lad," and joked "I'll never look at volbeat the same after this." After more than 500 hours across six years of play time, the same canned lines across villagers can wear thin.
