Predator: Badlands Director Used 2009 Star Trek as His 'North Star'
Predator: Badlands has topped streaming charts and recently became available to stream on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ in international markets. Director Dan Trachtenberg said the 2009 Star Trek movie was a major influence on his approach to the film. “The opening sequence of Trek 09 is absolutely incredible.
I cry every time I watch it. I don't know what other movie has you crying in the first five minutes of it, and it's always been a North Star for me, of like, can I get people to emotionally invest as quickly as possible?” Trachtenberg said, adding that he wanted an emotionally stirring sequence that would ask viewers to look at the face of a Yautja and feel something for it, as if it were a fellow human being.
Trachtenberg has signed a three-year first-look directing and producing deal with Paramount, making it likely this will be his last franchise entry for at least a few years.
