Primate heads home with a new behind-the-scenes featurette
Primate, Johannes Roberts’s killer-monkey horror, opened on January 1, 2026 and will be released on digital on February 10, followed by a DVD and Blu-ray release on April 21. The physical edition includes commentary from Roberts, featurettes and material on the creative design that brought Ben the monkey to life.
A new behind-the-scenes featurette spotlights Adam, played by Oscar-recipient Troy Kotsur; both actor and character are deaf, which makes Adam’s scenes particularly unsettling. Johnny Sequoyah, the film’s star, describes how tension escalates as her character and others are attacked while Adam remains unaware, and Kotsur discusses his experience working with Roberts.
The story follows college student Lucy (Sequoyah), who returns home to Hawaii with two friends and reintroduces them to the family’s adopted chimpanzee, Ben, who communicates via a soundboard. After being bitten by a rabid animal, Ben transforms from affectionate to violent and goes on a bloodthirsty rampage.
