Prime Video is adapting Sex Criminals comic; Kumail Nanjiani will produce and appear
Prime Video is developing a live-action adaptation of the Image Comics series Sex Criminals, Polygon reported on Jan. 29, 2026. The move comes from the Amazon-owned streamer as it continues to expand its slate of comic-book adaptations. Sex Criminals, created by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky, follows a woman whose ability to stop time activates when she has sex.
She meets a man with the same power and together they stop time and rob banks. The series for Prime Video is being co-created by Tze Chun, Emily V. Gordon, and Kumail Nanjiani. Winter Coat Films (Gordon and Nanjiani) will produce alongside Prime Video, Fraction and Zdarsky, and LuckyChap; Nanjiani will also play a role in the show, though the outlet said which part he will play has not been revealed.
Tze Chun said in a press release, "I’ve been a fan of Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky’s Sex Criminals since the first issue hit the stands. This has been my dream project for over a decade, and co-creating this show with Emily and Kumail has been one of the creative highlights of my career." Gordon and Nanjiani added in a statement, "Sex Criminals is the exact kind of thing Winter Coat aims to bring to life: love stories in weird places.
