Prince Albert Seen with Scar After Dermatological Procedure During Vatican Visit
People reported that Prince Albert of Monaco, 67, was seen with a noticeable scar on his left cheek while meeting Pope Leo at the Apostolic Palace on Jan. 17, 2026, marking his first public appearances following a medical procedure earlier in the week.
On Jan. 16 the Princely Palace of Monaco said Albert underwent a scheduled dermatological procedure on his scalp and face "to treat a benign condition." The palace added the procedure "required a few stitches," and photos also showed the scar during his appearance at the opening of the 48th International Circus Festival at the Chapiteau de Fontvieille in Monaco on Jan. 16, where he was joined by his nephew Louis Ducruet and niece Camille Gottlieb.
The Holy See Press Office told Vatican News that Albert met with Pope Leo, 70, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher to discuss diplomatic relations, the Catholic Church’s contribution to Monaco’s social life, care for the environment, humanitarian assistance and the defense and promotion of the dignity of the human person; attention was also given to international affairs including peace and security and the general situation in the Middle East and in certain regions of Africa. The Princely Palace said the Sovereign Prince’s schedule of activities continues as normal.
