Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was moved out of his longtime home at Royal Lodge in the middle of the night, dispatched by car to Norfolk as staff packed his remaining belongings. The transfer was arranged hastily after an urgent discussion at Sandringham the previous evening involving Prince William and King Charles.

He went into temporary housing at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate while awaiting renovations on a permanent residence at March Farm; other accounts have named Marsh Farm, and an author suggested he could relocate to Bahrain. Formal notice to surrender the lease on Royal Lodge has been served, and King Charles removed the Duke of York and prince styles.

The move follows the release of more than three million Department of Justice records related to Jeffrey Epstein, which include a photograph of Andrew crouched over an unidentified woman, an email linked to a 2001 image of Virginia Giuffre, and an email containing crude remarks by Sarah Ferguson.
