Pritzker Prize Defends Independence After Tom Pritzker's Epstein Ties
The Pritzker Prize, established in 1979 by Jay and Cindy Pritzker to raise awareness of the built environment, has come to be regarded as the profession’s highest honor. The release of the Jeffrey Epstein files revealed extensive contacts between Tom Pritzker, director of the foundation that awards the prize, and Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Weeks before the latest laureate was to be announced, Mr. Pritzker resigned as executive chairman of the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, saying he had “exercised terrible judgment in maintaining contact with” them, and some wondered whether the prize would be affected.
