Set for a theatrical launch on March 20, 2026, Project Hail Mary is Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard. The story follows Ryland Grace, a junior high molecular biology teacher who wakes aboard a spacecraft with no memory, only to discover he’s on a last-ditch mission to save the sun and humanity.

Along the way he befriends an alien mechanic named Rocky. Headlining the cast, three-time Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace; his credits include Remember the Titans, The Notebook, Lars and the Real Girl, Blue Valentine, Drive, La La Land, First Man and Barbie, and he earned an Oscar nod for Half Nelson.

Sandra Hüller appears as Eva Stratt, the project’s shadowy leader; Hüller’s notable work includes Toni Erdmann, Proxima and Anatomy of a Fall, for which she won an Academy Award in 2025. James Ortiz puppets and voices Rocky, the rock‑like alien mechanic and lone survivor who becomes Ryland’s unlikely ally.
