'Project Hail Mary' scores big at the box office
Project Hail Mary opened in the No. 1 spot on Friday, drawing more than $33.1 million at the box office, Box Office Mojo shows. The Post called the Amazon MGM Studio sci‑fi adventure "a bona fide summer blockbuster smack dab in the middle of March," and noted that the film’s "enormous appeal starts with star Ryan Gosling," who plays a science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship.
The Amazon MGM Studio film reportedly cost a staggering $248 million to produce and is slated for a $77.1 million three‑day weekend opening, Deadline projects. Animated sci‑fi comedy Hoppers placed second, earning $5.4 million on its third Friday; the film follows an animal lover who uses new technology to communicate with animals.
Third was Ready or Not 2: Here I Come with $3.8 million, and the Guardian said the sequel "expands mythology we didn’t need expanded." Fourth was Dhurandhar The Revenge, an Indian Hindi‑language spy action thriller, which took in close to $3 million. Reminders of Him came in fifth with $2.71 million.
