Project Helix will play your Xbox and PC games
The recent retirement of longtime Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and the resignation of Sarah Bond raised questions about the future of Xbox. New Microsoft Gaming chief Asha Sharma posted on X that there is a plan: Project Helix, the codename for the next-generation console.
"Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games," she wrote. This follows comments from AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, who said in February that "development of Microsoft's next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027." It is the first time the codename has been used publicly and the first suggestion the new unit may act more like a living-room PC — comparisons ranged from a Steam Machine to an Xbox Ally you can set your drink on.
The remarks also set Microsoft’s approach apart from Sony, which is reportedly scaling back plans to release future PlayStation exclusives on PC.
