Property Brothers warn against reckless use of bold color in homes
Jonathan and Drew Scott, known as the Property Brothers, say a major mistake when designers get ambitious is using bold color without restraint. After cautioning against all-white schemes, they have been using their YouTube channel to outline how to use color more deliberately.
They encourage statement walls and suggest options such as paneling or wallpaper, noting paneling can add functionality like sound dampening in playrooms and media rooms. They recommend peel-and-stick wallpaper as an easy way to create an accent and even mention feature ceilings as an option, while stressing restraint.
The brothers warn that the bolder the choice, the faster it can go out of style, and advise against applying busy patterns across too many walls because it can create visual overload. They also caution that tone-on-tone rooms need a focal element or contrast to avoid feeling flat.
