Gamesradar reports that PUBG: Blindspot is a top-down, team-based tactical shooter and the first major spin-off from the PUBG franchise, positioning itself as a departure from the series' battle-royale roots.

The game adopts a 'bomb mission' format familiar from Counter-Strike and draws influence from Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, casual top-down shooters such as Door Kickers, and the military MMO Foxhole. Project director Seungmyeong Yang says the team sought to carry over PUBG's hyper-realistic gunplay — citing factors like gun sway and recoil as "the main differentiator of PUBG" — and that playtests showed genre fans "weren't expecting" to be able to express individual skill despite the top-down view.

Blindspot limits player sight with a cone-of-view system but, Yang says, also provides the views of teammates to make information as important as accuracy: "We provide a clear cone of view which tells you where your character can actually see. But what's different for us is that we also provide the view of your teammates." He frames survival and hiding behind cover as central to the experience, and Krafton believes the spin-off can stand as a distinct extension of PUBG's themes even as it moves into a new genre.
