Punkt has unveiled the MC03, a privacy-first smartphone that runs a curated list of secure apps and a hardened, subscription-based operating system called AphyOS.

The handset will be sold in North America for $699 and is scheduled to launch in Spring 2026. AphyOS is free for the first year and then requires a $9.99 monthly subscription, with bundle options available.

MC03’s software includes vetted services such as Proton Mail, Calendar, Drive and an integrated VPN (examples include Digital Nomad). Users can install vetted apps from an App Hub or choose apps from a secondary store under their direct control.

Hardware is manufactured in Germany and features a 120Hz OLED display, a 64MP main camera, IP68 dust and water resistance, and a rare removable 5,200mAh battery.

The company says the device’s hardened codebase is designed to block attacks and unauthorized access to limit online exposure. ZDNET plans hands-on testing at CES to assess how well the phone balances privacy with everyday smartphone functionality.
