Quentin Tarantino’s first play, The Popinjay Cavalier, will receive its West End premiere, with the director also taking the helm in London. Set in 1830s Europe, the work is billed as a "rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise" inspired by the "swashbuckling epics of stage and screen" and described as a "sweeping celebration of theatre" told with Tarantino’s "signature style and unmistakable wit".

Presented by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment, the play will be developed this year with a planned opening in early 2027 at a West End theatre yet to be named. Rumours had circulated that it would be a "classic British trouser-dropping" farce.

Tarantino said last year the play was "absolutely my next project" and suggested a successful West End run could lead to a tour; he added, "If it’s a flop, I’ll be done very quickly." He plans to move to England with his family to work on it and has estimated the project will occupy 18–24 months of his life.
