Rosanna Arquette, who played Jody in Pulp Fiction, praised the film as "iconic, a great film on a lot of levels" but said she is "over the use of the N-word," calling Tarantino's perceived "hall pass" to use the slur "not art, it's just racist and creepy." Tarantino answered in a letter beginning "Dear Rosanna," saying her remarks reveal "a decided lack of class." He accused her of trashing a film she took money to be part of for what he suggested were cynical publicity reasons, and said the comments had achieved their intended objective.

The N-word appears across Tarantino's filmography, including Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained, the latter featuring 110 uses of the slur. In 2022 he told critics who object to his language to "see something else," adding, "If you have a problem with my movies then they aren't the movies to go see.

Apparently I'm not making them for you." Samuel L.
