Rare Tsukhime Trial Edition floppy was destroyed during shipping
Tsukhime Trial Edition, a 1999 Japanese adult visual novel, was printed as a prototype on only 50 3.5″ floppy discs and is regarded as one of the rarest video games on Earth.
A buyer known as Keripo received a parcel wrapped with tape declaring it had been inspected by U.S. Customs. On opening the box the floppy was found nearly shredded; who is responsible remains unclear, though the damage almost certainly occurred during transit and could involve DHL or U.S. Customs.
Images and video show the disc torn, its plastic bent and the floppy center removed, despite the sender having padded it between cardboard and sealed it in bubble wrap. The parcel carries tape from both DHL and Customs, suggesting multiple inspections.
Some people suggested the unboxing might be staged, but Keripo says the disc was sent by a friend in Portugal and that the protective packaging had been removed. Keripo has sent inquiry letters to Customs and DHL to learn what happened and to seek possible compensation.
